No agreement reached with US over use of airspace, Pakistan

 Rejecting media reports, the Foreign Office spokesman said that there was no agreement between Pakistan and the United States on the use of airspace in connection with the operation in Afghanistan.

In a statement issued on Saturday, October 23, Foreign Office spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry categorically rejected media reports and said that there was no agreement with the United States on military operations in Afghanistan. Pakistan and the United States have no agreement on the use of airspace.

The spokesman added that the two countries have long-standing ties in regional security and the fight against terrorism. Pakistan and US are in touch in the war on terror.

It should be noted that the American broadcaster CNN says that the United States and Pakistan have come close to an agreement for a military operation in Afghanistan.

According to a CNN report, a formal agreement is yet to be reached between the two countries. Under the agreement, the United States will use Pakistan's airspace for military operations in Afghanistan. The terms of the agreement have not been finalized, but an agreement with the Pakistani government is likely soon. CNN's report also claims that Pakistan is willing to sign the MoU on two conditions.

The Biden administration briefed members of Congress on the agreement reached with Pakistan. US lawmakers were briefed Friday morning on the deal with Pakistan. Pakistan has expressed interest in providing counter-terrorism assistance in exchange for the use of airspace and assistance in improving relations with India.

Talks are underway between the United States and Pakistan to finalize the agreement. The US broadcaster also said that the agreement has not been finalized, it may change.
