Agreement to save the environment, rich countries 'put more money on the table': Boris Johnson

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called on developed countries to "put money on the table" for an agreement to save the environment.

"It should be in the next few hours," he was quoted as saying by AFP.

The ongoing COP 26 conference in Glasgow will conclude on Friday evening.

"We need to keep more money on the table for developing countries to make the necessary changes to the agreement," Johnson told the media.

"Developing countries need to know that there is enough money for change and that there is an intention to start," he said.

"If they have the courage to make that deal, we have a roadmap that will help us move forward and address the threat of climate change," he said.

Earlier on Friday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that as long as governments were investing trillions in oil, gas and coal projects, all promises to reduce carbon emissions were insincere.

According to the French news agency AFP, Antonio Guterres said in his address to the conference on climate change COP 26 that the announcements made by different countries are encouraging but not enough.

He said that when trillions of rupees were being subsidized to the fossil fuel industry, these promises seemed false.
