Dow University won the first three P. Samra Research Awards

 Young doctors from Ojha Hospital, Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi, have won the first three Pasmara Awards organized by the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine Research Awards.

Doctors at Dow University won the first three awards for their role in the treatment and prevention of coronavirus, vitamin D, and research on coronary artery disease patients.

The Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine Research Awards ceremony was held at a local hotel in Islamabad on Sunday in which Dr. Muhammad Sohaib Asghar of Dow University was awarded first, Dr. Sadaf Ahmed second and Dr. Rabel Yaseen third.

The three doctors from Karachi were also awarded cash prizes of Rs. 210,000 and Rs. 75,000 respectively for their exceptional research.

The YP Samra Awards have been launched by the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine in association with the Health Research Advisory Board and Farm Evo, a local pharmaceutical company. 

Twenty-six doctors from across the country submitted their research papers for the award, of which 10 were shortlisted, followed by a jury of eminent doctors from across Pakistan declaring the research papers of three young researchers from Dow University as the best. Declared entitled to awards.

Addressing the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine Research Awards ceremony, Prof. Javed Akram, Vice Chancellor, University of Health Sciences, Lahore, said that he was very happy that now young Pakistani doctors are taking care of patients in hospitals as well. They are also engaged in research.

 Pakistan's young doctors and students have great potential. The time is not far when medicines and treatments developed by Pakistani experts will be adopted all over the world.

Congratulating the doctors of Dow University on receiving the first three awards and prizes, Prof. Javed Akram said that after the issuance of these awards, there will be a competition among doctors from all hospitals and universities in Pakistan and such investigations will come to light. As a result, the welfare of humanity will be possible.

Dr. Abdul Basit, Pakistan's renowned Diabetologist and Chairman of the Health Research Advisory Board, said that his institute has been encouraging research on various diseases in Pakistan for many years.

 So far, various initiatives have been taken for research and development across the country, including the awarding of awards in collaboration with the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine and the awarding of cash prizes to young researchers.

On the other hand, Prof. Saeed Qureshi, Vice Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi, congratulated the young doctors of Dow University on receiving the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine Research. He said that the research done at Dow University is also being recognized internationally and the World Health Organization as well as other international organizations are in touch with him to benefit from Dow University's research.
