A shining example of service to humanity, Abdul Sattar Edhi

Abdul Sattar Edhi who has made a home in the hearts of the people, had distanced himself from the colors of life and dedicated himself to fulfilling the great mission of serving humanity.

In fact, his mother's training and temperament had a profound effect on his personality. His mother used to give Abdul Sattar Edhi a penny a day for food and a penny for helping another person.

Abdul Sattar Edhi entered practical life after receiving advanced training in service to humanity from his great mother. Edhi did not even have a formal education up to high school, but he said that the sorrows of the world have been the source of my teacher and wisdom. In 1951, he opened a short hospital in a private shop with the help of a doctor.

A friend of his helped him in this work. With the money he got from this friend, he bought a car worth Rs. 2,000, built a dispensary and set up a four-bed hospital inside a tent. Edhi would travel around the city in his ambulance all day and whenever he saw a needy or injured person, he would immediately take him to a relief center.

The regular Edhi Foundation was started in 1957 when a large-scale flu outbreak broke out in Karachi and on this occasion Mr. Praidhi, with the help of philanthropists, set up a free medical camp in the vicinity of Karachi. Inspired by his work, philanthropists donated large sums of money to him, which he honestly used to buy the entire building where the dispensary was located.

In the same building, she set up a maternity ward and a training center for nurses. There he met Nurse Bilquis, whom he married in 1965, and they had two sons and two daughters. Starting his philanthropic work from this small house, his organization is today one of the largest non-state charitable organizations in South Asia. He served selflessly and devoted his entire life to this work.

Edhi himself was an organization working for the backward class of the country, he saw difficult times, he was used in political affairs and when he failed he was retaliated against. , On which he had to live outside Pakistan for some time, but he continued his mission to serve humanity.

This great philanthropist ran the Edhi Foundation for six decades in such a way that even the government could not do what the organization did. Undoubtedly, the Edhi Foundation has revolutionized welfare work not only in Pakistan but also in the subcontinent.

The Edhi Foundation still runs an extensive ambulance service, a free hospital, and Darulaman for orphans, women and the elderly. The trust has saved the lives of more than 20,000 unborn babies, sponsored more than 50,000 orphans and trained more than 40,000 nurses. Edhi Trust's clinics, shelters, homes for the elderly and women, and countless other projects will be found across the country.

In the event of an accident, natural disaster or explosion, the siren sounds a few minutes later, and the fast-moving white Suzuki arrives at the scene, as if they were waiting for the same thing on the next street. Trained crews quickly drop off injured and dead people on stretchers and transport them to ambulances, as if they had been doing just that for years.

Undoubtedly, the nation did not give away the trust it had in Edhi. Because this great benefactor of humanity also lifted and buried the rotten corpses with his own hands which even his heirs were not ready to touch. He gave new life to the children who were thrown to death on the rubbish heap.

Numerous orphans and helpless people found a new life through their charity. Despite his international reputation for selfless service to humanity, Edhi, unlike most Pakistani politicians and human rights activists, lived a simple life and that is why the people showered him with love and donations.

Wearing a shirt and shalwar, he had only two pairs of the cheapest clothes of the militia, one would be dirty and the other would be worn while only one pair of shoes would be in his use for the last 20 years.

Abdul Sattar Edhi had made sure in his life that he would leave behind an institution that would continue to work for the welfare of humanity even after him. Today Edhi is not with us but his family and the Edhi Foundation.

The workers are carrying out their mission, it is a sign of immortality. Today Edhi Sahib is not with us but thanks to his great services his name will live forever in Pakistan. Every Edhi ambulance on the road will keep reminding us of him, and prayers for him will continue to flow from our hearts.
