Imran Khan's plea to dismiss Shahbaz Sharif's defamation suit

Prime Minister Imran Khan has filed a reply to the defamation suit filed by opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif seeking dismissal of the suit.

The reply submitted in the Sessions Court said that the offer of money was not direct from Nawaz Sharif or Shahbaz Sharif but came through someone. A man named Omar Farooq said that there is an offer, if Imran Khan stops following Panama Lakes, he is ready to pay a huge amount.

The reply said that Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif had tried to give a BMW car to an army chief in the past while an audio tape of Shahbaz Sharif with a judge has also come to light.

According to the reply, Shahbaz Sharif's allegations do not fall under the defamation suit and he did not send any specific notice within 60 days as per law. Shahbaz Sharif sent only legal notice on May 8, 2017 without fulfilling the legal requirements.

Imran Khan replied that Shahbaz Sharif has been a political opponent for two decades and Shahbaz Sharif himself has made many statements to defame him. The same was said about the bribery offer.

The Prime Minister said that Shahbaz Sharif's reputation may have been affected by some other reason than my statement. Shahbaz Sharif's claim is false, baseless and has been filed by distorting the facts. Opposition leaders are trying to drag political issues into the courts.

In reply, it was said that the claim filed by Shahbaz Sharif does not fall under the jurisdiction of this court, therefore, it is requested that Shahbaz Sharif's claim be dismissed with a fine and a council fee be collected from him.

Barrister Ali Zafar submitted the reply on behalf of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
