Islamic University student gang-raped

An alleged gang-rape of a 22-year-old student in a hostel of Islamic University Islamabad has been revealed.

Speaking on SAMAA's Nadeem Malik Live program, Rector Islamic University Dr. Masoom Yaseenzai said that this heinous act was committed against a student of Quaid-e-Azam University and two doctors involved in it have been expelled from the university.

Dr Masoom said the two rapists were studying at the Islamic University and were between 24 and 25 years old. He further said that the security officer of the hostel has also been removed and the matter has been brought to the notice of the concerned police station.

"Some people think we are hiding the matter, but it is not because we took all possible steps as soon as we came to know about it," he said.

Dr. Masoom said that on the identification of the affected boy, we called a meeting of the disciplinary committee against both the students and at the same time expelled them from the university.

Commenting on such incidents in the country, Dr. Masoom said that in these circumstances our responsibility has increased and we need to take steps to attract students to positive activities.

Talking on the occasion, Minister of State Zartaj Gul said that a bill has been passed in the Senate today which also mentions castration and we have even said that such people should be hanged.

Zartaj Gul said that those who were supposed to reform the society were themselves involved in such crimes.

Commenting on the Lahore incident, he said that the Islamic Ideological Council and religious scholars need to play a role in this matter as similar incidents have been reported in madrassas before.

Zartaj Gul said that the Prime Minister was also in favor of giving harsh punishments on this issue but all sections and civil society need to support the government on this issue.

Talking on the occasion, PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry said that the parliament needs to be active on this issue as the collective wisdom of the nation comes from the parliament.

Talal Chaudhry said that we should consider why the accused are not being punished under the existing laws and in this regard we need to move towards reforms.

He said that we had made a law on the issue of guilt but at present the atmosphere in the parliament is not such that anyone can decide on such a matter.
