UAE approves new rules for non-Muslims

 UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has approved new laws for non-Muslims in the United Arab Emirates.


The new family laws will apply to non-Muslim immigrants living in the state of Abu Dhabi. Family laws contain more than 20 provisions that cover every aspect of private life.

One section of the new law contains the laws of marriage and divorce, the other section deals with the rights and obligations of husband and wife, the second section deals with the distribution of property and financial matters in case of divorce.

The third clause deals with the maintenance of children after divorce. The fourth clause of the law deals with wills and inheritances. Non-Muslims residing in the state will have the right to bequeath all or part of their property to someone.

A separate unit has been set up under the judiciary for family laws for non-Muslims. Judicial proceedings will be conducted in Arabic and English. The new family laws have been developed in accordance with the existing laws in the world.
