Two Indian journalists arrested for reporting sectarian violence in Tripura

According to the Hindustan Times, people familiar with the matter said that Sakonia and Sorna Jha of Samardhi, who are affiliated with Delhi's news channel HW News Network, were at the Radhakeshwarpur police station in Gomti district.

He is expected to appear in court on Monday after a preliminary inquiry.

The two were taken into custody from Karimganj district of Assam on Sunday at the request of Tripura police.

According to the report, a team of Tripura police went to Assam, but both refused to go with the team at night.

It should be noted that according to section 46 (4) of the Criminal Code, no woman can be arrested after sunset and before sunrise except in unavoidable circumstances.

Later another team took permission from the court and arrested the two.

An official said the two had to talk to police in Agartala before leaving the state, but instead left for Assam without notice.

He added that the journalists posted a few videos on social media showing an allegedly burnt prayer hall and a half-burnt Qur'an in Gomti district, which is suspected to have a diamond in it. Has been manipulated.

The HW News Network described the detention of the two journalists as part of the Tripura police and government's efforts to harass and target the press and prevent journalists from reporting facts.
