India: Central government allows autopsy at night

In India, the central government has now allowed night autopsies.

According to Indian media, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that a notification regarding postmortem has also been issued.

According to the notification, post-mortem can be done at night in the hospitals which have proper infrastructure. Video recording of the entire process will be preserved during the post-mortem at night.

Video recordings of the entire process during the postmortem may be used for legal purposes and in the case of suspicion, although postmortem was not permitted at night in cases of murder, suicide, rape, mutilated body and suspicious circumstances.

This permission will make it easier to hand over the body of the person killed in the accident to his family and will also facilitate those who want to donate organs.

It is to be noted that in this regard, all the state governments and the administration and concerned agencies of the Centrally Administered States have been informed.
