Five thousand Afghan refugees are entering Iran every day.

 Up to 5,000 refugees a day cross the border from Afghanistan into neighboring Iran.

According to the French news agency AFP, the Norwegian Refugee Council, an international aid agency, has said that 3 million 60 thousand Afghan refugees have already taken refuge in Iran, adding that the influx of additional refugees will increase the burden on Iran. ۔

The Norwegian Refugee Council has called on the international community to provide more assistance to Iran. The council says that despite US sanctions, Iran has the most comprehensive refugee policy in the world.

After his visit to Iran, Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council John Egeland said that with so little cooperation from the international community, Iran could not be expected to host such a large number of Afghan refugees.

He said aid to Afghanistan and its neighbors, such as Iran, should be increased immediately before the onset of severe winters.

The council says at least 300,000 Afghan refugees have entered Iran since the Taliban took control of Kabul.

John Egeland says he has heard heartbreaking stories from families who have recently arrived in Iran.

A refugee said he had been targeted for being a Shi'ite, had had his belongings confiscated, his home burned down and had fled to Afghanistan several times before reaching Iran.
