Attack on Capitol Hill, Donald Trump's adviser Steve Benn indicted

Former US President Donald Trump's adviser Steve Benn has been charged with refusing to testify before a congressional committee investigating the Capitol Hill attack.

According to the French news agency AFP, the US Department of Justice has stated that Steve Benn, who has been a long time advisor to the former president, has been indicted.

Benn was suspected of having links between the White House and Trump supporters who attacked Capitol Hill.

Steve Benn has been indicted for failing to appear and provide documents to a committee despite a congressional hearing.

Benn, 67, was summoned on September 23 by a select committee investigating the January 6 attack on Capitol Hill.

He was among dozens of people called in to testify about the attack. The committee said Benin had "significant information" that could be used to determine the motive for the attack on Capitol Hill.

Trump has argued in court that his advisers are exempt from appearing in court to testify, while the documents the committee has sought from his administration have legal protections (administrative privileges).

Steve Benn has stated that he will not testify until the issue of administrative privilege has been resolved.

It is to be noted that after the defeat of Donald Trump in the election on January 6, his supporters stormed the Capitol Hill.

Four people were killed during the violent protests, while police confirmed the arrest of 52 people.

US President Joe Biden called the attack on Capitol Hill the darkest event in American democracy.
