The proposed Peshawar-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway needs to be reviewed

Thankfully, the country's second longest motorway from Peshawar to Dera Ismail Khan has been approved.

The 360 km long motorway will consist of 6 lanes, including two 7 km long tunnels and 19 interchanges. This motorway will cost about Rs 258 billion. The project will be completed in four years.

Undoubtedly, this project will be a milestone in the development and backwardness of the southern districts. But looking at the map of its motorway, it seems that this project will be ridiculed, humiliated and ridiculed like the BRT project in Peshawar.

The main reason for this is the bill of this motorway. The distance of DI Khan from Peshawar on the existing Indus Highway is 297 km while on the proposed motorway the distance will be 360 km ie 63 km more will have to be covered on the motorway.

The people have already started pointing fingers at this project and many people have objections and reservations about it. Undoubtedly, motorways or highways are the lifeblood of any country which is the lifeblood of the economy.

Drugs are available, business opportunities are available. Travel is easy and time is saved, fuel is consumed in small quantities. The country spends a lot of money on the motorway, so planning requires careful and greedy, experienced engineers.

Did not happen From Peshawar to Kohat and then from Kohat to the west it is diverted to Hangu which is totally wrong as it increases the distance of the motorway to 63 km. The people of Hangu should be given a link road from Kohat Interchange to use this motorway and the motorway should pass through the areas closest to the existing Indus Highway.

On the other hand, twice as much area will not be able to benefit from this motorway. If one looks at the map of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the map of the proposed motorway, most of the southern districts on the left side of the proposed motorway from Peshawar to DI Khan cannot benefit from this motorway.

From Kohat to DI Khan On the way, a large area towards Lachi, Shakardara and Sabirabad will be deprived of this motorway. In addition, the increase of 63 km will cost the national exchequer billions of rupees. It will take more time and thus more fuel will be spent which will put additional burden on the national exchequer.

Looking at the current design, it seems that it has been customized. Just like the Rawalpindi Ring Road was taken in the form of Zig Zag just so that they can benefit from this road. Road will be the second biggest scandal and will come to light at some point.

It would be appropriate to review the design of this motorway and change its proposed route. It should be taken from Kohat via Lachi, Karak Bannu and Lakki Marwat to DI Khan. Change should be given from where people will benefit up to Mianwali.

Contacting a very senior engineer in his neighborhood, he said the proposed route was detrimental to both the national exchequer and the people and called for a change in its design as the 297 km stretch is 360 km. The change will not only increase the cost but will also deprive a large number of people from traveling on it.

Therefore, the top officials of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and especially Chief Minister Mahmood Khan are requested to immediately review the design of the proposed motorway. Both will face constant torment in the future. If it is built on the right or left side of the existing Indus Highway instead of Hangu, not only can it save Rs 58 billion at a cost of Rs 258 billion but also the people. A large number will also be able to benefit from it.
