Taliban attacks intensify, displacing thousands of families in Laghman province

Thousands of Afghan families are fleeing their homes as Taliban attacks intensify in Afghanistan. All this is happening at a time when US and NATO forces have begun withdrawing from Afghanistan on May 1.

Abdul Basit Ansari, spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Refugees, said most of the displaced families were from the Afghan provinces of Helmand, Kandahar, Baghlan and Laghman. According to him, these families are leaving their homes due to increasing violence.

The spokesman said 6,000 families had been displaced from Laghman. The province has seen heavy fighting between the Taliban and Afghan government forces in recent weeks.
