China attaches great importance to the Palestinian issue, Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that his presence at the Security Council meeting shows that China attaches great importance to the Palestinian issue.

Speaking at the Senate session, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that unarmed women and children in Gaza were being targeted by Israeli forces, but unfortunately the Security Council could not reach a conclusion.

The Foreign Minister said that the primary responsibility for maintaining law and order lies with the Security Council, while in the fourth session of the Security Council, when 14 out of 15 members agreed on a point, one country used its veto power to disrupt the consensus.

"When this situation came up, we contacted the Turkish foreign minister and we decided in consultation with Saudi Arabia that we should go to the General Assembly where there is no veto power," he said.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the matter was discussed with the Prime Minister which he allowed and directed all the delegates of New York to request the President to convene an emergency meeting of the United Nations.

He said that the President of the United Nations made a big decision in spite of the situation and convened a meeting and I also participated in it.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the unanimous resolution passed by the National Assembly strengthened my hands and all the guests present in the meeting were presented a copy of the resolution and informed of the opinion of the Pakistani nation which would have had a positive impact.
