Sudanese people take to the streets again against the military coup

According to Arab News, the military coup in Sudan has plunged the African country into a political crisis and exacerbated its economic woes.

The UN envoy to Sudan warned last month that the country was heading for an economic crisis and a security threat.

Strict security measures were put in place around the presidential palace in Khartoum and its twin city of Umm Darman to limit the protests by pro-democracy groups.

It should be noted that due to the weak economy of Sudan, the living conditions of the people are deteriorating rapidly and violent clashes have been witnessed in various demonstrations since October.

Protesters rallied in the eastern Sudanese cities of Kadyrov and Port Sudan, as well as in the war-torn region of Darfur in the west. The youths set fire to the tires and set up roadblocks.

According to a Sudanese medical group, more than 90 people, mostly young people, have been killed in crackdowns on protesters since the uprising, and thousands more have been injured.

Western nations and international financial institutions have cut off international aid to Sudan in a bid to pressure military generals to return to democracy.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price also urged Sudan's military rulers on Tuesday to refrain from obstructing peaceful protests and turning them violent.
