Russia suspends NATO mission

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has officially announced the suspension of Russia's mission in the Western defense alliance NATO.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says the deliberate move by NATO forced the Moscow government to make similar decisions.

Russia's foreign minister says it will take several days for matters to be settled at NATO headquarters, but he hopes the Russian office will close by November 1.

According to the German broadcaster, Sergei Lavrov further clarified that important and urgent matters between Russia and NATO in the future will be resolved through the Russian embassy in Belgium.

Last week, NATO ousted eight members of a Russian mission near its headquarters. The administration of the Western Defense Alliance had ordered the eviction of eight Russian officials, calling them intelligence officers.

According to the Western Defense Alliance, the Russian mission to liaise with its headquarters is able to carry out all its diplomatic affairs easily but with a new set of numbers.
