5 students are deprived of exams due to non-payment of school fees

A private school in Peshawar has barred five ninth-graders from sitting for the board's annual exam for failing to pay full fees.

On Saturday, July 31, Peshawar Model School No. 5 did not allow five students to take the biology exam due to non-payment of fees and allegedly kept the five in a separate room until the other students finished the exam.

The parents of some of the five students told SAMAA Digital that they were being pressured to pay the remaining amount of fees and threatened not to allow the children to sit for the exams if they failed.

Omar Siddique, the father of a student, Farooq Omar, said the closure of the Pak-Afghan border had hit his business hard, leaving him unable to pay his son's full fees.

He added that the school administration had isolated 10 children in a separate room during the examination and had contacted the parents and threatened that they would not be allowed to sit for the examination if the fees were not forthcoming.

He said the examiner was told that the isolated children were absent.

Omar Siddique said that half of the children managed to get out of the room while the other five failed to sit for the exam.

Farooq Omar's father was shocked that his son's educational future was in jeopardy, leaving him with no choice but to go viral on social media.

He said that after watching the complaint video released by him, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Minister Shahram Taraki KPA contacted him and assured him that the remaining papers would be taken again and he would tell his child to take the exam. Be prepared

Omar Siddique said that he had deposited Rs 35,000 in terms of school fees while Rs 19,000 is yet to be paid.

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and the Institution of Private Schools have assured the parents of the students affected by the incident to take action against the school administration. Arrangements will be made for these students to take a biology test and the school will have to bear the additional cost in this regard.

Speaking to SAMAA Digital, the school's principal Begum Mansoor admitted that the students had been barred from taking the exam, but said that the school's accountant, Iftikhar, was responsible for the incident and had been fired over the incident.

He said the school would bear the cost of re-organizing the leaflet. However, he denied that the affected doctors were confined to the room. She said that her own pup was sitting in the same exam so she could not even imagine locking the students in the room.

Begum Mansoor said that the children were sitting in front of her and she had tried to talk to the school director about the matter but they could not get in touch.

He said that the incident took place on the basis of a misunderstanding for which the said accountants were responsible. He further said that the affected students have also been exempted from paying the fees for the months of July and August.

The school principal said that there are some requirements for re-conducting the paper, including preparation of the examination paper, its printing and appointment of examination staff.

It should be noted that Peshawar Model School is an authoritative institution of education for many schools, colleges and a university in China and the province.
