Statement on the rising incidence of rape was presented out of context: Imran Khan

 Islamabad -

Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that he will never say such an irrational thing that the victim of rape is responsible for it. No matter what women want to wear, the one responsible for the rape is the one who commits this heinous act.

In an interview with Judy Woodruff, host of the American TV news program News Hour on Tuesday night, the host asked if you really think that women themselves are to blame for the rising number of rape cases in Pakistan. ? On this, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that his statement was presented out of context. According to him, the victim of rape is never responsible.

Prime Minister Imran Khan's statement is being described by some quarters as an explanation of his earlier statements in which he had said that women's short dress causes obscenity in a country like Pakistan.

He had said that in a society like Pakistan, when women wear shorts, men are not robots, which increases the incidence of rape.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said in an interview that he was only talking about Pakistani society where the incidence of rape is increasing significantly.

Imran Khan added that not only rape cases are involved in sexual crimes but also the incidence of child abuse is increasing dramatically compared to rape cases of women.

According to him, he used the word veil and in Islam veil is not just the name of clothing and it is not limited to women only.

The host asked Prime Minister Imran Khan if it was difficult to take a strong stand against violence against women in Pakistani society because of religion.

In response, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that women are given more respect in Pakistan and other Islamic countries than in Western societies.

'US messed up everything in Afghanistan'

Commenting on the situation in Afghanistan, Imran Khan accused the US of messing everything up in Afghanistan. Now that the US wants a negotiated solution and withdraws troops, the Taliban are calling it their victory. Are

"When people like me opposed US military intervention in Afghanistan, I was called anti-US and Taliban Khan," Imran Khan said.

According to him, when there were 1.5 million NATO and US troops in Afghanistan, it would have been beneficial to have talks with the Taliban. But when the United States announced its withdrawal from Afghanistan, when NATO and the United States had only 10,000 troops, the Taliban saw it as a victory.

Imran Khan said it was now very difficult to persuade the Taliban for a political settlement or negotiations because they now thought they had won.

Asked about the Taliban's advance in Afghanistan, Imran Khan said the only solution to the Afghan conflict was a political settlement that would include all parties, including the Taliban, in the government to be formed.
