Democracy is in danger around the world, says President Biden on Memorial Day

"Democracy is in jeopardy within the United States itself and around the world," said US President Joe Biden in a speech to mark Veterans Day.

President Biden made the remarks after laying a wreath at a memorial in Arlington, near Washington, D.C., with Vice President Kamala Harris and senior military officials.

"What we do now and how we remember those who lost their lives will determine whether democracy will survive or not," he said.

Biden was apparently secretly referring to the siege of Capitol Hill on January 6 this year by those who came out in favor of former President Donald Trump to block President Biden's victory in the November election. Were

In his 22-minute speech, President Biden called on the media to seek the truth, the truth based on facts and not propaganda.

During the Civil War of 1868, Memorial Day was introduced in the United States in late May, with the aim of paying tribute to American soldiers who died in the wars.

This day is now celebrated on the last Monday of May every year. This day is a public holiday in the United States.

This day is also traditionally seen in the United States as the regular beginning of summer. This is followed by the regular start of the traditional travel and leisure season across the United States.

According to the US Department of Transportation, not many people traveled on Memorial Day last year due to the corona virus, but this year, 1.8 million people flew across the country on Thursdays and Fridays over the long weekend.
